WEEK 1 PRIMER : THE LOCALS

Share

* UCLA (0-0) at Washington State (0-0)

* KICKOFF: 12:30 p.m., Channel 7

* STORY LINE: An opener that was moved from November back in the spring gets UCLA out of playing in the Paloose during the frigid season and gets Washington State a home game during the first week students are in school.

* UCLA UPDATE: The Bruins have nine offensive starters back in their second year of a new attack that they think can outscore people. They also need a victory before consecutive nonconference games against Tennessee and Texas.

* WASHINGTON STATE UPDATE: Cougar Coach Mike Price says his team has an opportunity, with its season-opening schedule of UCLA and USC. He admits, though, that it’s also a challenge.
