Tree Lighting Ceremony to Be Held at Promenade
A 50-foot juniper tree will adorn the north end of the Third Street Promenade for the holidays following a lighting ceremony tonight.
The lights on the donated tree at Wilshire Boulevard and Third Street will be switched on shortly after 6 p.m. by Santa Monica Mayor Pam O’Connor, said Kathleen Rawson of the Bayside District Corp., which manages the Promenade.
Officials of the city’s bus system, Big Blue Bus, also will collect nonperishable foods for the Westside Food Bank.
A free concert featuring students from the Santa Monica Alternative School House and musical group Parachute Express will follow the tree lighting. The performance will be held in the 1300 block of the Promenade, Rawson said.
Merchants on Second, Third and Fourth streets will be offering holiday discounts and specials tonight, she said.
