CSUN Marks Korean Home-Stay Program

A program that immerses Cal State Northridge students in Korean culture through home stays with local Korean families will celebrate the completion of its inaugural semester at a reception Wednesday.

Study Abroad in Los Angeles Project: Korea is the brainchild of two CSUN professors.

“The program will expand intercultural opportunities, since only one-half of 1% of all CSU students study in foreign countries in yearlong programs,” said Jan Fish, a CSUN professor of educational psychology and counseling. Fish co-founded the program with Ah-Jeong Kim, assistant professor of theater.

Fish said the weekend home-stay program will be offered again in the fall 1998 semester.

Fish added that future programs could include projects with the Armenian, Chinese and Iranian communities.
