After reviewing 70 applications, the city of Moorpark has hired John Nowak for the post of assistant city manager.
Nowak, 43, has served as the deputy city manager in San Gabriel for the last five years. Before that, he was city manager for Lawndale and later San Marino.
Nowak earned a master’s degree in public administration from West Virginia University in 1973.
“Mr. Nowak has the experience needed for the position and has worked in similar-sized communities,” said City Manager Steve Kueny in a written statement announcing the hiring. “He also knows what it’s like to work in cities with a relatively small staff with a large number of varied projects and programs.”
He will begin the job, which pays $81,296 a year, on Jan. 5.
The assistant manager is responsible for matters such as the city’s finance and personnel.
Nowak will replace Richard Hale, who resigned in September to become a city administrator in Marysville, Calif.
