You Call That Fashion?

Spend a weekend doing an art gallery crawl and you’ll find there’s more to look at than what’s on the walls--it’s also great for people watching. Bergamot Station in Santa Monica drew this collection of assorted art lovers recently, whose eclectic looks were perhaps inspired by the works they came to see.

The style of the artiste wannabe might include a bandanna-wrapped head, color-splotched T-shirt and low-slung pants. A dramatic drape of scarf gives a simple black dress verve. Floral prints become a brilliant vestmental painting. Yoko Sugioka, lower right, also proves that they can enliven an otherwise stark gallery space. But when in doubt, always wear black. It’s a wardrobe’s blank canvas.
