Stewart L. Hall; World War II Hero, Insurance Executive

Retired Brig. Gen. Stewart L. Hall, 86, World War II hero and insurance executive. Born in New Jersey, Hall attended Colgate University and enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard’s elite 102nd Cavalry, which was mobilized when war broke out. Hall became assistant division chief of staff for intelligence and served 18 months in the European Theater. He fought in five campaigns including Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge, and earned the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf clusters, the French Croix de Guerre Avec Palme and the Belgian Fourragere. Hall retired as brigadier general from the Army Reserve in 1965. In civilian life, he was vice president of Occidental Life Insurance Co. of California and managing director of Occidental Life of Australia. On Nov. 27 in Rancho Bernardo, Calif.
