Share

To continue beautification efforts in the resort area, the City Council has approved spending $17.5 million to spruce up Katella Avenue between Anaheim Boulevard-Haster Street and the entrance to the Convention Center.

The council this week awarded a contract to Sequel Contractors of Downey to do the work, paid for by revenue generated by Anaheim Resort bond proceeds, money set aside for underground utility lines and transportation improvement funds.

Work will include placing overhead utilities underground, installing new water, sewer and storm drains to accommodate new development, lining the street with palm trees and adding new street lighting and traffic signals. To improve traffic capacity and flow, turn lanes, bus turnouts and street widening projects are also planned. A gateway will be constructed at the Anaheim Boulevard-Haster Street intersection with landscaping and banners that identify the resort area.

Construction will begin in early January, with completion scheduled for May 1999. A second phase will follow to improve Katella Avenue between the Convention Center and 9th Street.
