Council Agrees to Purchase Home of Ex-City Manager
In an attempt to tie up loose ends with former City Manager Bill Kirchhoff, the city of Redondo Beach will buy his Pearl Street home and resell it, the City Council has decided.
Mayor Greg Hill said that the city offered to buy the home Wednesday for $519,000 and Kirchhoff accepted. Hill said the city had given Kirchhoff $195,000 to buy the home when he came to the city six years ago with the stipulation that when he left his post the house would be sold so that the city could recoup its investment. Kirchhoff will return the $195,000 to the city as part of the sale agreement.
“This is just part of our attempt to wrap up business,” said Hill.
The council fired Kirchhoff in May, citing a lack of confidence. Kirchhoff has filed a lawsuit against the city charging that his reputation has been ruined.
Kirchhoff could not be reached for comment Thursday.
