FRESHWATER

CASTAIC LAKE--Trout bite fair to good on lower lake, with Power Bait, mini-jigs and Kastmasters getting most. Largemouth bass very active in upper lake. Mike Carpenter, Canyon Country, 25 bass in two days, largest 9 1/2 pounds, on Wham Fisheze lures at about 25 feet. Mudsuckers also working. A few striped bass.

LAKE PIRU--Few limits of trout, but trollers are picking up a fish or two by working the dam area with fire-tiger Rapalas, Needlefish and Kastmasters. Catfish action has picked up, with most fish caught on mackerel at east end. Bass bite slow, with jigs and night crawlers picking up some.

PYRAMID LAKE--Striped bass biting on anchovies, mainly at Yellow Bar and in the marina area. Most fish in the five-pound range. Catfish action has picked up. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are being caught mostly on purple plastic worms.

LAKE CACHUMA--Trout planted recently by both DFG and private hatchery, yet few limits. Needlefish and Power Bait best bets. Red-ear perch bite fair. Top catch, 21-pound catfish by Richard Sheets, Santa Ynez, while trolling for trout with a night crawler.

LAKE CASITAS--Top catch an 11 1/4-pound bass by Robert Heffernan, Ojai, on AC plug. Josh Kolbinsky, Lake Forest, 10 1/2- and nine-pound bass, on Castaic Soft Trout. Several smaller bass caught on spoons, plastic worms and crawdads. Catfish very active. Steve Carbajal, Oxnard, 24-pound catfish, on mackerel at Santa Ana Arm. Joe Alvarez, Ventura, 22-pound catfish. Some trout.

CORONA LAKE--Joe and Cynthia Hernandez, Corona, combined for 10 trout totaling 13 1/2 pounds. A 7 1/2-pounder was also caught. The bite isn’t great, but it isn’t bad.

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--Seems they’re bringing in one big rainbow trout after another. Top five-fish stringer totaled 26 pounds 8 ounces, by Anthony Lourenzi, Yorba Linda. Top fish, 14-8 by Phil Hildebrandt, Anaheim, on Power Bait at Levitz Corner. Brown trout are biting as well. Top stringer, 15-8, by James Robbins, Garden Grove, on Fenwick Minnows. A 26-pound sturgeon was also caught.

IRVINE LAKE--Trout bite fair to good along west shore, with night crawlers, salmon eggs, Power Bait and Kastmasters all getting fish from one-10 pounds. Mornings best.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Lake has been closed because of last week’s rain but is expected to reopen today. Anglers advised to call first: (714) 362-3885.

LAKE SKINNER--Striped bass providing some action, biting occasionally at surface but more often on anchovies in deeper water. Some trout.

LAKE PERRIS--Fishing pressure light. Bass biting at the east end on purple and green plastic worms. Don’t expect any big fish.

SILVERWOOD LAKE--Nothing happening on surface. Largemouth bass are at 50-60 feet, being caught mostly on spoons. Catfish are at least that deep and even the crappie have taken a dive.

BIG BEAR LAKE--It’s only a matter of time before the ice forms. Meanwhile, some trout are being caught on Power Bait, Sierra Gold and night crawlers.

SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--Best bet: the trout bite at Miramar. Power Bait and night crawlers accounting for several limits of fish to three pounds. Murray has a fair trout bite and El Capitan a fair bass bite.

LAKE CUYAMACA--Trolling Rapalas in late afternoons is the most productive method to catch a trout or two. Few limits reported, though, and no fish over three pounds reported.

SALTWATER

MORRO BAY (Virg’s Landing)--6 anglers (1 boat): 2 ling cod, 75 rock cod.

SANTA BARBARA (Sea Landing)--12 anglers (2 boats): 57 calico bass, 24 sand bass, 7 sculpin, 4 whitefish, 7 red snapper, 38 rockfish. (Hornets Landing)--5 anglers (1 boat): 26 calico bass, 20 sand bass, 1 red snapper, 5 mackerel.

OXNARD (Cisco’s)--25 anglers (2 boats): 36 yellowtail, 1 halibut, 11 calico bass, 1 bonito.

MARINA DEL REY--8 anglers (1 boat): 2 yellowtail, 34 bonito.

REDONDO--21 anglers (2 boats): 53 sand bass, 18 whitefish, 1 sheephead, 130 mackerel.

SAN PEDRO (22nd St. Landing)--13 anglers (1 boat): 23 calico bass, 2 sand bass.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY--Castaic Lagoon, Elizabeth Lake. SAN DIEGO--Chollas Park, Doane Pond, Lake Murray, Lindo Lake. IMPERIAL--Sunbeam Lake, Weist Lake. SANTA BARBARA--Cachuma Lake. SAN LUIS OBISPO--Atascadero Lake, Lopez Lake, Santa Margarita Lake. VENTURA--Casitas Lake, Lake Piru.
