Each day from now until Christmas Eve, Life & Style will highlight a gift that can make a difference in the world. Giving one of these presents can help feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, rescue wildlife, restore the planet. Giving these gifts can make many people happy, including yourself.

Today’s Gift Idea: Order a gift from Los Angeles-based TreePeople that will last for generations and benefit the environment. For a minimum donation of $15, TreePeople will plant a tree seedling and send a personalized holiday card to the recipient. A gift of $50 will buy a grove of five trees and an inscribed certificate. All dedicated trees will be planted throughout the mountains surrounding Los Angeles, helping to clean the air, beautify the wilderness, fight erosion and provide homes for wildlife.

The Payoff: All proceeds help TreePeople in their mission of educating, training and supporting the people of Los Angeles to take personal responsibility for the urban forest. Citizen volunteers have planted more than a million and a half trees in Southern California during the organization’s 24 years of service.
