Saddleback College Chief Resigns
Saddleback College President Ned Doffoney announced his resignation Monday, becoming the fourth ranking administrator to leave the district or announce a departure in a year.
Doffoney, 47, will leave to become founding president of South Louisiana Community College in Lafayette, about 30 miles from where he grew up.
“My stay at Saddleback College has been both challenging and rewarding,” Doffoney said in a prepared statement. “However, the opportunity to create a new community college rarely comes along in the life of an educator, and, when it does, the attraction is compelling.”
South Orange County Community College District Trustee David B. Lang and several faculty members expressed concern about Doffoney’s decision to leave after only three years as president.
“I wish I could say this is the last of the senior administrators to leave,” Lang said. “I think there’s certainly on my part a real concern about loss of key administrators in the district.”
Tony Carcamo, vice chancellor of fiscal services, is leaving March 1. Chancellor Robert A. Lombardi also will retire in March, and Irvine Valley College President Daniel L. Larios left in February to head Fresno City College.
