KOCE-TV Channel 50 has won an IRIS Award from the National Assn. of Television Production Executives for its series of public service announcements about the dangers of cigarette smoking. Competition for the 31st annual awards was open to broadcast and cable stations around the world.

The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded Pacific Symphony $55,000 for its Class Act education program, which will bring the orchestra and its music to some 17,000 elementary school students throughout Orange County next year. The subsidy is one of 400 grants totaling $14.5 million awarded by the NEA in the first round of its 1998 cycle.
