Salvation Army Plans Women’s Rehab Home

Share

For years, the Salvation Army has operated a rehabilitation center for men suffering from alcohol and drug problems. Now, an identical program for women will be built next to the men’s facility on South Lewis Street in Anaheim.

The Anaheim Planning Commission on Monday approved plans for a 16,000-square-foot rehabilitation residence, designed like a rambling ranch house, to serve up to 26 women.

Plans for the Christian-based women’s center include 15 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, dinning room, beauty salon, meditation room and recreation and television areas.

Women in the six-month program will be required to attend chemical dependency education meetings, Bible studies, 40 hours of work therapy and other activities.

Fund-raising efforts are under way, with the center price tag an estimated $1.1 million. About $200,000 has been raised.
