Game of the Week

PITTSBURGH AT WASHINGTON

* When--Friday. * Time--4:30 p.m. * TV--None.

* Storyline--The Northeast Division-leading Penguins, who have made impressive strides defensively under Coach Kevin Constantine, kick off a stretch of 12 of 13 games within the Eastern Conference. They haven’t given up more than four goals in a game since Nov. 5, a key to their 10-2-4 surge. Right wing Jaromir Jagr, who says acupuncture helped heal a nagging groin injury, has 16 goals. The Capitals, who played 22 of their first 33 games on the road so they could play more games at the new MCI Center, will be two games into a six-game homestand. They’ve had trouble scoring lately and are being carried by Peter Bondra, who has scored 22 goals.
