Students Take Part in DARE Program
Two classes of sixth-graders at Santa Rosa Elementary School are participating in a 17-week anti-drug program that meshes the efforts of school officials, parents and sheriff’s deputies.
DARE, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is being sponsored by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, the Pleasant Valley Unified School District and the school’s Parent-Teacher-Student Assn.
The program educates children on the dangers of illegal drug use in an effort to present children with the basic leadership and life skills they need to make positive lifestyle choices.
The program, which started at the beginning of the school year, culminates with a June 1998 graduation ceremony.
