Four men suspected of stealing merchandise from a Pavilions supermarket Wednesday were arrested by a sheriff’s deputy after he spotted their car on the Ventura Freeway.

Authorities said three men entered the store at 1135 Lindero Canyon Road, took more than $400 worth of merchandise from a display case and then ran from security guards. They fled in a waiting car.

Store employees called the Sheriff’s Department, and a short time later a deputy pulled over a car on the northbound Ventura Freeway at Wendy Drive in Newbury Park. All four men were taken into custody. Authorities said the stolen merchandise was recovered.
