Dominik Hasek enjoyed shutting out the New York Rangers so much earlier in the week he decided to do it again.

Hasek stopped 28 shots for his fifth shutout in 11 games this month as the Sabres beat the New York Rangers, 3-0, Friday night at Buffalo, N.Y.

Hasek made 33 saves in Buffalo’s 2-0 victory Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

With his 26th career shutout, Hasek lowered his goals-against average to 2.53 in 32 games this year.

The league doesn’t list a record for shutouts in a month, but Alex Connell of the Ottawa Senators posted five in a row in February 1928, when forward passing was banned in the attacking zone.

Detroit 4, Toronto 1--Brendan Shanahan set up two goals, including the 549th of Steve Yzerman’s career, as the Red Wings ran their winning streak to four with the victory at Detroit.

Shanahan keyed a three-goal flurry in a 9 1/2-minute span of the first period. With his 10th goal of the season, Yzerman passed Michel Goulet for 14th place on the all-time list.

New Jersey 4, New York Islanders 3--Randy McKay scored his second goal of the game with 3:08 to play and the Devils rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Islanders at East Rutherford, N.J.

Chicago 4, St. Louis 1--Goalie Jeff Hackett stayed hot by making 20 saves, and Dmitri Nabokov had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks at St. Louis.
