Metal Factory Gutted by Fast-Moving Fire
A metal-finishing factory was gutted by a fire that spread quickly through the 10,000 square-foot structure before being controlled by fire crews from three cities.
Seventy firefighters from the Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena departments were called Sunday night to K & L Anodizing, at 1200 S. Victory Blvd.
Burbank Fire Marshal Darryl Forbes said Monday there were no injuries. No one was evacuated from the surrounding neighborhood.
It took firefighters nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze. Damage to the structure and its contents was estimated at more than $1 million, Burbank fire officials said.
At least 70 workers at the plant could not return to work Monday. Company officials could not be reached for comment.
Burbank Fire Capt. Bob Reinhardt said it could be days before the fire’s cause can be investigated because hazardous material crews must clean up vats of chemicals used in the metal-finishing process.
He said foul play is not suspected.
