Court Order Blocks Action Against Principal

The principal of Inglewood High School obtained a temporary restraining order blocking the school board from reassigning or dismissing him.

The school board had planned to take the action against Kenneth Crowe during Monday’s meeting, when members reconfigured various departments and jobs.

Crowe had filed a Los Angeles Superior Court suit last week to block the move, alleging that Supt. McKinley Nash planned to wrongfully demote him to the classroom, according to his attorney, Mansfield Collins. Crowe was reportedly the superintendent candidate that former board members wanted after they fired Nash in April. But a newly elected board rehired Nash, who returned to his old job three weeks ago.

“The lawsuit was filed to prevent the district from denying his [Crowe’s] rights from being violated,” Collins said, adding that he was not sure whether plans to demote Crowe were a possible retaliation for reportedly being considered for the superintendent’s position.

A court hearing has been scheduled for July 8.
