Ballots on Landscape Assessment Due Monday
Residents of the Tustin Ranch area have until the close of a public hearing Monday to cast their votes on whether to keep a lighting and landscaping assessment that was made illegal under Proposition 218.
Public Works Director Tim D. Serlet said the city distributed about 4,300 ballots to residents of Tustin Ranch, an area bounded roughly by the Santa Ana Freeway on the south, Jamboree Road on the east and the city limits on the north and west.
The ballot asks most single-family residences to pay about $50 a year for landscaping, and others about $69 for landscaping and street light maintenance, Serlet said.
If the assessment passes, it would raise $392,000 annually, Serlet said.
On June 9, Garden Grove voters approved a park maintenance assessment under the terms of Propostion 218, and this week, Yorba Linda residents approved an assessment. Stanton and San Clemente voters have rejected utility taxes.
Monday’s City Council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at 300 Centennial Way in Tustin.
