Expand Legal Uses of Pot, Doctors Urge

The British Medical Assn. recommended that some of the mood-altering chemicals in marijuana be legalized, but it stopped short of calling for full acceptance of the banned plant. The group, anxious about reports that some patients obtain cannabis from drug dealers in order to relieve their suffering, passed the resolution at the annual gathering of Britain’s doctors in Edinburgh, Scotland. Some research suggests that chemicals in cannabis may be useful in treating a variety of conditions, including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, asthma and eating disorders.
