A WONDERWALL TIME

After reading Robert Hilburn’s Oasis items (Pop Eye, June 29), I felt it was necessary to report a very different personal experience with the band than one might expect.

I took my daughter to the KROQ Weenie Roast for her 15th birthday because she’s crazy about Noel Gallagher and Oasis. From what I had previously read and heard about these guys, I wasn’t sure that I wanted my kid near them. I was lucky enough to get backstage and introduce us to Noel and the band, and I couldn’t believe how well-mannered and nice they were.

My daughter got their autographs and even a kiss on the cheek from drummer Alan White. Noel said he would have their manager put us on the guest list for the U2/Oasis concert in Oakland and, although I never really believed they’d remember us, four days later we watched that concert from incredible seats.

Maybe they’d get better publicity destroying hotel rooms, overdosing on drugs or fighting with each other, but it’s sure nice to see a different side of this very talented band.
