A citizens committee will push for more mainstream programming on Thousand Oaks’ public access channel, rather than the “oddball, esoteric, exclusive” programs they say are being shown now (B1). Under consideration are local sporting events, current affairs discussions and a cooking show hosted by local chefs. . . . The committee also wants the channel operated by city staff members, not TCI employees.

Out in Front

While Ventura and Ojai have been talking about building public skateboard parks, Camarillo has set aside $100,000 for one and may get the county’s first major park (B1). . . . Homeward Bound

Since 1990, the number of home-schooled children in Ventura County has doubled (B2). A home-schooling newspaper is published in Thousand Oaks. Recently, Cal Lutheran hosted a home-schooling conference. But all that is beside the point to 12-year-old Amanda Davis of Moorpark, above with mother Linda. . . . Amanda has been getting her education at home since kindergarten. “I like home schooling because we get to do a lot of creative projects and go on field trips and I can learn at my own pace,” Amanda said.

Hired as Channel Islands Harbor director in November 1996, Lyn Krieger inherited a property whose future was in question (B1). . . .
