A Mountain View man was presumed dead after being swept over a 594-foot waterfall at Yosemite National Park, officials said Sunday.

Zhiming Li, 35, was among 11 people swimming in a Merced River wading pool above Nevada Fall at about 5 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said Li lost his footing in chest-high water and was swept under a footbridge and over the brink of the waterfall.

National Park Service spokesman Al Nash said the wading pool is deceptively dangerous--the water appears calm but is not. Warning signs are posted nearby, he said.

A search for Li’s body had turned up nothing Sunday.
