Conducted by Music Director Paul Salamunovich, the Los Angeles Master Chorale in 1997-98 will perform six of its seven subscription concerts in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and an April event at First United Methodist Church of Pasadena.

The Chorale, with its Sinfonia Orchestra, opens the season Oct. 25 in the Pavilion with a performance of Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis,” at which the vocal soloists will include Angela Maria Blasi, Christina Wilcox and Kevin Deas, with the tenor to be announced.

The guest ensemble scheduled for the Nov. 23 concert is the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers. The Master Chorale returns, in “Home for the Holidays,” its traditional Christmas season program, Dec. 14.

Salamunovich leads Rachmaninoff’s “Vespers,” with its two soloists still to be named, in the Pavilion, Feb. 28. For Haydn’s “Creation,” March 29, the soloists will be Susan Montgomery, Christopher Cock and Kevin Bell.

For a festive program of music for organ and chorus, the Chorale moves to First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, April 26, at which time it will share the evening with American organist Frederick Swann. Their program lists the belated world premiere of the late Jean Langlais’ “Praise the Lord, All Ye Nations,” written for Swann, plus Kodaly’s “Laudes Organi,” Britten’s “Festival Te Deum” and the Mass by Dvorak.

The season ends back at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, May 30, when the Master Chorale and the Sinfonia Orchestra perform Carl Orff’s popular “Carmina Burana.” Soloists will be Camille King, Alejandro Garri and Kevin McMillan.
