Oxnard Economic Corp. Boasts of Job Gains

Share

More than 1,500 jobs were retained or brought to Oxnard during the Greater Oxnard Economic Development Corp.’s 1996-97 fiscal year.

“These are jobs that were created or saved by companies directly assisted by the EDC,” said EDC President Steve Kinney. “We’re pleased to report that these new jobs, when added to jobs retained in the city, have an overall positive economic impact of more than $60.4 million of payroll in Oxnard.”

In the corporation’s annual status report to the Oxnard City Council, the group said job growth came from the relocation of Haas Automation, Bungee International and Templock Corp., among other companies. Firms that remained and expanded within Oxnard included Pioneer French Bakery, Coastal Multi-Chrome and Cosmetic Specialties.

Kinney said the EDC is helping the city market properties in the Hueneme Road Assessment District and is assisting with elements of the Oxnard downtown redevelopment. It also will work with the city to develop an economic strategy for south Oxnard.

Kinney said the EDC is working with more than 20 companies interested in moving to Oxnard.

“We will be focusing our marketing efforts on multimedia and manufacturing clusters,” he said.

The EDC is a private, nonprofit corporation established to stimulate economic growth in the Oxnard area.
