Times Wins First Place in Lifestyle Coverage Awards

The Los Angeles Times has won first place in three categories in the Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Awards.

The Times’ general lifestyle coverage won first place for newspapers with a circulation of more than 300,000.

In announcing the winners last week, the judges wrote: “The Los Angeles Times offers a cornucopia of lifestyle coverage during a week. Its range is broad; its quality is deep. From the Sunday magazine to the daily sections, the lifestyle coverage is everything a reader could want: book reviews and entertainment listings; personality profiles and issue stories; humor columns and recipes. It makes you think, and it makes you laugh.”

The Times also won a first-place award for “The Simpson Legacy,” a series of special sections that examined the aftermath of the O.J. Simpson case. And Daniel P. Puzo won a first-place award in the food and nutrition category for the story “What Happened to California’s Seafood,” which looked at the decline of California’s seafood industry, once the country’s largest seafood producer.

The Times’ Business section won second place in the regularly scheduled feature supplement category for its weekly report, “The Cutting Edge.”

Four Times reporters were finalists for their feature stories: Alan Abrahamson, Mimi Avins, Elizabeth Mehren and D. James Romero.
