Sysorex Information Systems Inc. is being acquired by Vanstar Corp. of Pleasanton in a deal worth up to $53 million in cash, stock and debt. Executives said the union would give the combined company added heft to compete for a greater collection of government contracts. Under terms of the agreement, Fairfax, Va.-based Sysorex would operate as a mostly autonomous division of Vanstar. Carleton Jones will remain president of Sysorex operations, and the company will continue to operate in Winchester, Va. Executives said they expect no layoffs to result from the deal. By acquiring a smaller company, Vanstar is furthering a consolidation in the world of “systems integrators,” companies that build large, customized computer systems combining many different brands of hardware and software. Sysorex employs about 150 people and had revenues of about $153 million last year. Vanstar creates and manages computer networks, primarily for large enterprises. Vanstar shares gained 50 cents to close at $13.75 on the NYSE.
