The school board has selected Upland resident Dena Graves to be the Laguna Beach Unified School District’s business manager.

Graves, 49, a business consultant who is completing her doctorate in education leadership at the University of La Verne, began work July 1.

She has previously worked as assistant superintendent of business services for the Claremont Unified School District and as assistant superintendent in finance for both the San Marino Unified and Kingsville Independent school districts.

Graves is married, has twin daughters in college and plans to relocate to the area.

“Her qualifications are an ideal match with our needs as a district,” acting Supt. Cheryl Baughn said. “She has experience in the breadth of business services in small school districts and extensive expertise in the area of business finance. Her experience in the accounting arena will be particularly valuable in this position.”

The school board hired Graves on a unanimous vote during a special budget workshop last month.

She will be paid a base salary of $75,000 per year and will able to earn another $10,000 annually if she achieves basic district objectives, Baughn said.
