Owners Urged to License Pets Before Crackdown
Long Beach’s animal control workers are urging dog owners to make sure their pets are registered before county inspectors come knocking.
On July 23, county animal control workers will begin canvassing the city, selling dog licenses and charging $20 late fees for any overdue licenses. Neutered and spayed canines cost $12 a year to register, while the fee for unaltered dogs is $24. A rabies shot is the only requirement for a license.
Roger Hatakeyama, manager of the Animal Control Bureau, said the city hires county workers to conduct a monthlong licensing sweep every two years, then splits the revenues with the county.
