Fair Benefits Park’s Recreation Center

Popcorn, cotton candy and corn dogs, along with rides on the Ferris wheel and scary walks through the funhouse in Winnetka Park, will entertain area children and their parents this weekend at a fair that will benefit the recreation center.

The fair, which began Friday night, will continue from 2 to 10:30 p.m. todayand Sunday.

A few thousand people are expected to attend over three days, paying 75 cents per ticket for rides--some of which require more than one ticket--to help fund recreation center classes and sports clinics.

Although funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Recreation and Parks, the park’s center, like others in the system, relies on fund-raisers to offer extra activities for park patrons and area residents.

“We have to make more and more of our money to keep our prices down on classes,” said Ed Laakso, recreation center director.

The center offers clinics in baseball and basketball, as well as arts and crafts, ballet and piano for children and adults.
