Festival to Benefit Anti-Gang Program

The sixth annual Sin Fronteras Latino Music Festival--to be held Sunday at the Hansen Dam Sports Complex--will feature 10 acts and benefit the Los Angeles Police Department’s Jeopardy gang-prevention program.

Officer Richard Stocks of the LAPD’s Foothill Division, who helped establish the annual concert in 1991, said proceeds from the festival represent more than half of the funding for the Foothill Division’s Jeopardy program.

Jeopardy provides youngsters who live in areas with heavy gang activity with the support and alternatives they need to avoid the gang lifestyle, he said.

At the Foothill Division, about 175 kids and their families participate in the program at any one time. In addition to counseling and mentoring, Jeopardy offers sports, dance and theater activities, outings, parent education classes and study groups, Stocks said.

Artists scheduled to perform Sunday include La Mafia, Los Tiranos del Norte, Beatriz Montes and Mariachi International de Mexico.

The all-day festival activities will also include food booths and police exhibits. The festival will begin at noon and end at 6 p.m. Hansen Dam is located at 11770 Foothill Blvd., Lake View Terrace.

A $5 donation is requested for adults and children 12 and older.
