CKE Names Four Administrators

* Mike Liby has been appointed vice president of operations for CKE Restaurants Inc. in Anaheim, the parent company of Carl Karcher Enterprises Inc., Casa Bonita Inc. and Summit Family Restaurants Inc. Liby joined the company in 1987 as director of loss prevention and safety. He was most recently director of training and special projects. Ed Donahue has been named vice president of Region 1, overseeing the operations of 110 restaurants in the Inland Empire, parts of Los Angeles and Tucson. Donahue joined CKE as a general manager in 1981 and was made district manager in 1983. Julie Shirley has been appointed vice president of Region 2, which includes 111 restaurants in Los Angeles, Kern, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Shirley has been with CKE since 1977. In addition, Marsha Shanks has been named director of operations services and communications. Shanks had been manager of operations services since 1994.

* William J. Murrell has been named senior vice president at Cushman Realty Corp., a Newport Beach-based real estate brokerage. Murrell, an office leasing specialist in the central and south Orange County market, has been with the company since 1989.

* Jeremy A. Stephan has joined Aminco International Inc., an Irvine sports and Olympic collectibles company, as vice president of sales and operations. He is the former director of worldwide sales for Grand Slam Licensing Inc.

* Michael Visbal has joined Waldron & Co. Inc., an investment banker and stock brokerage in Irvine, as senior vice president, director of private client services. Visbal was previously a broker at Everen Securities. He has also been associate director at Bear Stearns and first vice president at Drexel Burnham Lambert.

* Michael Checkwood has been named account coordinator for TH&M; Advertising in Irvine. He previously held a similar position with Ketchum Directory Advertising in Los Angeles.

* George R. Barraza has joined J.A.M.S./Endispute in Irvine as chief financial officer. He had been chief financial officer at the law firm of Christensen, Miller, Fink, Jacobs, Glaser, Weil & Shapiro. Before that, Barraza had been director of finance for Baker Tanks Inc. and vice president of finance and business development for Southern Graphics Inc.

* David L. Cooper has been named scientific director and chief operating officer of the reference laboratory at Quest Diagnostics’ Nichols Institute in San Juan Capistrano. Cooper will manage reference laboratory operations, oversee research and development activities, and supervise business administration functions. He was most recently associate professor of pathology at the University of Pittsburgh and associate member of the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

* Ron Sylvester has been named executive vice president and general manager of Electronic Media Communications in Newport Beach. He was formerly senior vice president of production for Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, New York.

* Charles L. Bruhn has been appointed vice president of sales and service for Environmental Software in Huntington Beach. He was formerly vice president of corporate and PC sales for Creative Computers Inc. and vice president of sales for Multiple Zones International.

* Tami Larson has joined Galardi Group Inc. in Newport Beach, owner of the Wienerschnitzel chain, as field marketing manager. She is responsible for in-store marketing programs and promotions. Larson was formerly West Coast marketing manager for Bakers Square Restaurants.

* Margaret J. McBride has been elected president of the Orange County/Long Beach chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a partner with the accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP.

* Jamie C. Oliver has been named vice president of clinical affairs for Techniclone Corp., a Tustin pharmaceutical and cancer therapeutics company. Oliver had been director of clinical research immunology and oncology for Kendle International. John N. Bonfiglio was appointed vice president of business development. Both positions are newly created. Bonfiglio joined Techniclone from Baxter Healthcare, where he was director of strategic business.

* Gregory S. Grabar has joined NexGen SI Inc., an Irvine professional services and software company, as chief financial officer. Grabar previously served as a senior financial officer and vice president of finance at Benton Oil and Gas Co. in Carpinteria. He has also held corporate finance positions at Citicorp and Bateman Eichler, Hill Richards Inc.

* Michael LaMar has been appointed director of sales and marketing for Proview Technology Inc. in Garden Grove, a subsidiary of Proview International Holdings Ltd. in Hong Kong, a manufacturer of monitors and related products. Before joining the company, LaMar spent two years with Smile International in Costa Mesa, a monitor manufacturer.

* William J. Walter has joined Engage, an Irvine online gaming services company, as vice president and executive producer. He will be responsible for overseeing the content development and programming of the online service. Before joining the company, Walter was chairman and chief executive of Digital Alchemy, a multimedia production company that he founded with actor Michael Keaton.

* Joseph Kaneda has been elected partner in the Newport Beach law firm of Feldsott, Lee & Feinberg. Kaneda has been with the firm since 1992.

* Charles R. Thomas has been appointed vice president of operations and controller of MBK Northwest, a division of MBK Real Estate Ltd. in Irvine. Thomas previously spent seven years with MJC Construction Co. as a controller.

* Dan Carlsson and Todd Nicholson have formed Carlsson-Nicholson Public Relations in Irvine. Nicholson was previously president of the Orange County Business Council and Carlsson operated his own public relations firm.

* Jeffrey Feld is the new director of technical support and design assurance for the storage business unit of CMD Technology in Irvine. Feld was formerly director of product support and design verification for Standard Microsystems Corp.
