Woman Jail Inmate Dies of Unknown Causes

A woman inmate being held at the Branch Jail Honor Farm in Ojai died of unknown causes Saturday, authorities said.
Police said Valerie Kay Wittkofsky, 36, of Simi Valley, died shortly after she lost consciousness at about 5 p.m. in the jail’s main dining hall. She was taken to Ojai Valley Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Wittkofsky, who had been incarcerated since June 11, was serving a 240-day sentence for possession of a controlled substance. She was due to be released in October.
An autopsy will be performed.
