Samuel Stillman isn’t just a mortician who grew up in South Philly. He’s Lord of the Manor of Haccombe Newton Abbot. Stillman, 80, bought the title several weeks ago.

“To the Americans, this is a little odd. I do believe I’m the only one in Philadelphia,” Stillman, who lives in suburban Lower Merion, told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He wouldn’t reveal the cost of the title, which refers to a property in Britain but doesn’t give him ownership of any land or buildings.

The lordship and the coat of arms Stillman is having drawn up can be passed down to descendants. But Stillman can’t call himself Lord Stillman. Only Queen Elizabeth II may bestow that title.
