Addiction ‘Relapse’: Porno for Pyros front man Perry Farrell is returning to his roots by re-forming the rock band Jane’s Addiction, which disbanded six years ago. Farrell will be joined in the project by original members Stephen Perkins on drums and Dave Navarro on guitar. Bassist Flea, a bandmate of Navarro’s in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, will step in for original Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric A, who declined to join the regrouping. The new Jane’s Addiction--being billed by Farrell as “the relapse” since “you can’t call it a ‘reunion’ without all original members”--plans to issue a new CD on Oct. 18 featuring previously unreleased live and studio tracks and demos. In addition, at least one original song will be recorded by the new lineup, which plans to embark on a multi-date tour Oct. 25 in San Francisco.

Speaking of the Chili Peppers: The group’s singer, Anthony Keidis, is scheduled to be released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center today after undergoing five hours of surgery Sunday following a motorcycle accident in which he shattered his wrist after being hit by a car. The band has postponed upcoming shows in Alaska and Hawaii, but Keidis expects to make a July 26 date in Japan.

Internet Music Fest: Five Los Angeles music clubs will be among 60 venues worldwide that will use the Internet to take part in the four-day 1997 Intel New York Music Festival, which kicks off today as part of a “Global Internet Gathering” (GIG). The event, which includes both signed and unsigned bands and is centered in 20 New York clubs, will feature live concerts, still photos and chats over the Internet at https://www.thegig.com. Participating L.A. venues are Billboard Live (where the lineup includes the Untouchables), Dragonfly (with bands including Extra Fancy and Ozomatli), the Viper Room (acts include Michael Penn), the Troubadour and the Whisky.

TV & RADIO

Sharing ‘The View’: ABC will premiere Barbara Walters’ new daytime series, “The View,” on Aug. 11 in the 10-11 a.m. time slot currently occupied by the canceled series “Caryl & Marilyn.” “The View,” which will be produced by Walters and feature her as one of several female hosts, is described as a “multi-generational talk and informational entertainment program” that will include celebrity interviews, news, audience participation and topical segments. Meredith Viera (“Turning Point”) will moderate the program, and additional commentators include comedian Joy Behar, former prosecutor Star Jones and MTV personality Debbie Matenopoulos.

Dills Switching Stations: Longtime restaurant critic Elmer Dills has resigned his 4-7 p.m. Sunday afternoon radio slot on KTZN-AM (710) and will begin broadcasting on KIEV-AM (870) Sundays from 4-6 p.m., beginning July 27. “It was amicable,” he said Tuesday of his departure from KTZN. “It was just time to go.” Dills began at sister station KABC-AM (790) 21 years ago, and moved over to KMPC (KTZN’s former name) last year. Meanwhile Dills’ appearances on KABC-TV Channel 7 Fridays in the 5 p.m. newscast and Sundays in the 9 a.m. newscast will continue. “I just signed a new two-year contract,” he said.

LEGAL FILE

Presley Sues Enquirer: Lisa Marie Presley has filed suit against the National Enquirer, charging that a June 17 article, “Lisa Marie Suicide Drama,” contained numerous false statements. According to the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages for alleged defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress, the Enquirer falsely reported that Presley tried to kill herself in a bathroom and mutilated herself, drawing blood from her body and scrawling “nobody loves me” and “I’m ugly” on her arms. The Enquirer said it stood by its story, but in a statement, didn’t respond directly to Presley’s claims, instead taking issue with her attorney, Daniel Petrocelli, who successfully represented Fred Goldman in a civil suit against O.J. Simpson. “Mr. Petrocelli used our investigative reporting to help him win victory [in the Simpson trial],” the Enquirer said. “Now, in the Lisa Marie Presley suit, he wants to claim it doesn’t exist.”
