New Logo to Show Off College District’s New Name

Share

South Orange County Community College District has unveiled its new logo, redesigned to incorporate its name change.

The sleeker, oval-shaped design combines many aspects of the old Saddleback Community College District emblem and includes the 1967 founding date of the district, an open book denoting knowledge, a rising sun symbolizing optimism, fruit and leaves of an orange tree representing the county’s agriculture, a lamp signifying wisdom and mountains, which stand for strength.

The revamped design features dark-green lines and lettering against a cream background, instead of the old blue-and-gray color scheme.

The need for a new logo arose after the Board of Trustees voted in March to change the name of the college district to the South Orange County Community College District, which includes Saddleback College in Mission Viejo and Irvine Valley College.

The design was chosen by a eight-member committee that included district staff as well as two designers from the Saddleback College staff.
