Now Scott Says He Overreacted

Orlando Magic forward Dennis Scott apologized Tuesday for an outburst before a group of children at a summer camp in Virginia, saying he overreacted to a question about whether he has used drugs.

“At my own basketball camp, and in front of my 10-year-old [son] Ryan, I was asked whether I had engaged in drug use,” Scott said in a statement released Tuesday through his agent, David Falk.

“Naturally I was both shocked and embarrassed that I was questioned about drugs in front of my son. Admittedly, I overreacted. I have offered refunds to all campers to make up for any disruptions that occurred.”

Scott backed a sports utility vehicle onto a basketball court in Sterling, Va., and--while explicit rap music blared from the rear--threatened to sit out next season because, among other things, he’s underpaid.

Magic General Manager John Gabriel said Monday that Scott’s behavior and comments were unacceptable. He added that the player had not asked to be traded.

The Tampa Tribune, meanwhile, reported that Scott’s days with the Magic could be numbered.

“If we can do it, No. 3 [Scott’s uniform number] is out of here,” a source who requested anonymity told the newspaper.
