Clinton Nominates Banker Rohatyn as Ambassador to France
President Clinton on Friday announced the nomination of Felix Rohatyn, a prominent New York investment banker, to be U.S. ambassador to France.
The nomination is subject to Senate approval.
Rohatyn retired this year as managing director of Lazard Freres & Co. In addition to his work as an investment banker, he has taken an active role in public life, serving as chairman of the Municipal Assistance Corp. for the city of New York. He is also a leading contributor to the Democratic Party.
He would succeed Pamela Harriman, who died in February at age 76 after suffering a stroke in Paris.
