British Tourists Attacked by Arab

An Israeli Arab man armed with a sword, knife and plastic gun tried to run down a group of British tourists in Tel Aviv, then stabbed two women at a sidewalk restaurant, police said. Eleven people suffered minor injuries, police spokesman Linda Menuhin said. Israel radio reports said the attacker was a supporter of the militant Hamas group, but Menuhin did not confirm that. Meanwhile, Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat and Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy met in Brussels and reported they had made great progress in bridging a five-month schism in the Middle East peace process. “I am highly satisfied with our discussions,” Levy said after meeting with Arafat during talks brokered by the European Union. “Significant and positive steps have been taken,” Arafat said.
