Police to Allow Viewing of Megan’s Law Database

Share

The Redondo Beach Police Department will make available the Megan’s Law CD-ROM database listing the whereabouts of 64,000 sex offenders.

Only cities with populations of more than 200,000 are required by law to make the database available. Redondo Beach, which has a population of 36,000, is making the information available next week as a service to the community, officials said.

“This is part of our community policing effort to provide information to the community,” said Police Chief Mel Nichols, who added that the database, which has several flaws, indicates that there are about 40 sex offenders registered in Redondo Beach. “It’s something we believe we need to do.”

The database can be viewed by appointment starting Tuesday. The information will be available Tuesday through Thursday at the Redondo Beach Police Department from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To make an appointment call: (310) 379-2477, Ext. 2635.
