The Boston Red Sox may have two-time Cy Young Award winner Bret Saberhagen back this season after all.

Saberhagen, recovering from major shoulder reconstruction, has been throwing pitches 88-92 mph in practice and is scheduled to pitch for Trenton, N.J., the Red Sox’s double-A affiliate on Sunday, The Times has learned.

The fine amounts to about one-third of Alomar’s daily salary. Manager Davey Johnson levied the fine with the authorization of General Manager Pat Gillick, but would not comment.

Prosecutors have decided to charge Red Sox outfielder Wilfredo Cordero with violating an emergency restraining order in connection with a June 11 fight with his wife. The new charge resulted from Cordero’s alleged return to his apartment despite being warned not to go there because his wife, Ana, had been granted an emergency restraining order.

Mark Whiten is back in uniform for the New York Yankees, and now awaits a prosecutor’s decision on whether he’ll be charged with sexual assault. The outfielder did not play in New York’s 5-4 victory over the Angels, but Manager Joe Torre said he wouldn’t hesitate to use him.
