Sanitation Official Taking L.A. Position
The chief administrative officer of the Orange County Sanitation Districts is leaving to head Los Angeles’ Bureau of Sanitation.
Judith Wilson, who helped draft state legislation to streamline Orange County’s nine sanitation districts into one, has been in her current post since 1995. The agency has 624 employees and an annual budget of more than $147 million.
Before coming to Orange County, Wilson worked for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. At Los Angeles City Hall, she will run the Department of Public Works’ largest bureau, with more than 2,650 employees and a $193-million operating budget.
“Judy has the experience, skills and civic entrepreneurship to successfully lead the Bureau of Sanitation,” Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan said in a press release. “She has a strong track record of working on major infrastructure projects, managing large agencies and finding creative solutions to obstacles.”
Riordan’s office said Wilson’s appointment came after a national search that drew 35 candidates from both the public and private sectors.
