(10-4, 3.25 ERA)

vs.

RED SOX’S

STEVE AVERY

(4-2, 4.21)

Fenway Park, 2 p.m. PDT

Radio--KTZN (710).

* Update--Thursday’s rainout against the New York Yankees enabled the Angels to push back Dickson’s start and give him more time to recover from stiffness in his right elbow. Dickson hasn’t pitched since last Saturday’s 5-4 victory over Toronto in which he gave up eight hits and two earned runs in six innings. Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra has gotten the better of fellow rookie of the year candidate Dickson in two games this season. Garciaparra is four for six with a home run, a double and an RBI. However, Dickson is 1-1 with a 2.08 earned-run average and a shutout in two starts against the Red Sox in 1997. Right fielder Tim Salmon is batting .418 (33 for 79) with seven home runs and 28 RBIs in July. He has 12 RBIs in the last five games. This will be Avery’s first career appearance against the Angels.
