Suspected Muslim militants killed at least 36 villagers in two attacks on hamlets southwest of the Algerian capital, news reports said. The overnight attacks--in which some victims’ throats were cut, some were decapitated and others burned alive--occurred after about 50 rebels stormed Si Zoubir, a village about 40 miles from Algiers. After slashing the throats of 24 villagers there, the rebels--dressed as paratroopers, one survivor said--moved to neighboring Douch and slaughtered 12 more people, news reports said.
