Embryos

It’s chilling to see, as described in “Fertile Terrain” (July 17), human beings at the embryonic stage of life being cultivated like so many plants in a vegetable garden, with the “weaker” embryos being weeded out and discarded in a doctor-controlled experiment of survival of the fittest.

As is customary in reports on fertility treatments involving donated eggs, the article overlooks the critical fact that a child conceived through a husband’s sperm and donated eggs is not the child of that husband and his wife but the child of that husband and the woman from whom the egg comes.
