Jeff Maggert surged. Wayne Levi stalled. John Daly was solid once again.

So it went at Cromwell, Conn., in the third round of the Greater Hartford Open, where a fitter, trimmer Daly is essentially out of the running but still the main attraction in his first appearance since his notorious departure from the U.S. Open.

Maggert played flawless golf Saturday, wiping out Levi’s four-stroke lead and building a two-stroke advantage of his own.

Maggert had a bogey-free 64 on the par-70, 6,820-yard TPC at River Highlands course and was at 197, two strokes better than Levi (70) and Tom Byrum (65).
