Frommer’s has published its first “California From $60 a Day” guide (Macmillan Travel, $18.95 paperback). That’s $60 total, per person, for lodging and three meals; costs such as sightseeing and transportation are extra. . . . This summer, for the first time, the New York Historical Society is offering Central Park tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 31. The U.S. Virgin Islands this month changed its telephone area code to 340 from 809. Both codes will be accepted through June 30, 1998. . . . Swissair flights originating in Zurich and Geneva now offer organically grown food in breakfasts and hot meals, in all classes; salads and snacks will go organic later. Swissair claims it’s a first.
