Themed Rooms to Fit the Mood--on a Budget

Proprietors of Butterfield Bed and Breakfast in Julian have purchased another property north of Encinitas called Leucadia Inn by the Sea. To celebrate, they are offering a discount for travelers over 55 at both properties. Guests who arrive Sunday through Wednesday will get a room for two for two nights for $199, including breakfast both mornings and one dinner. The regular cost for this package is $308.

The Leucadia Inn by the Sea is one mile from Interstate 5 and one block from the beach. It is close to the train station, has queen beds, private baths and sport rentals nearby. Also included are in-room coffee, free local phone calls and parking. The rooms at the Leucadia are described as “whimsical,” with themes such as Hollywood, Africa and Nantucket.

The Butterfield B&B;, 60 miles east of San Diego, also has themed rooms, including the French bedroom, which opens to a gazebo patio and has a brick fireplace; the Country Corner room, with Laura Ashley decor and a brass bed; the Feather Nest, with a plush feather bed and a window seat with a view; and the Rose Bud Cottage, with potbelly stove and private entrance.

At the Butterfield B&B;, breakfast is served in the garden gazebo in the summer and by the main fireplace in winter.
