For celebrated gay writer Lytton Strachy (Jonathan Pryce), his life with painter Dora Carrington (Emma Thompson, pictured) gave evidence of “a great deal of a great many kinds of love.” Thoughtful, dense with emotion, preeminently human, the 1995 film explores that intimate but maddening affair of the heart and reveals a thicket of conflicted passions seldom encountered on the screen (Showtime Monday at 11:15 p.m.).
